550,833. Gas filters. STILLITE PRODUCTS, Ltd., and GAUNT, E. E. June 11, 1941, No. 7420. [Class 8 (ii)] [Also in Groups V, VIII and XXIII] In forming mineral wool by injecting steam into a stream of molten slag, natural rock, glass or like fusible substance, the fibres are caused to adhere together and are rendered waterrepellant by supplying with the steam an aqueous emulsion of a binding agent such as starch, glue, casein &c. and a water-repelling agent consisting of the resins obtained during the distillation of petroleum, or phenol-formaldehyde, urea-formaldehyde or glyptal resin. The product may be subsequently treated with steam and compressed to form blocks, slabs, sheets &c. The consolidated product may be reinforced by perforated sheet metal, wire netting, scrim cloth &c. and may be formed into cylinders for use in filtering gases.
