Abstract

[Class 45] [Also in Group XXVIII] A built-up fork-end fitting or turnbuckle for rods and cables comprises two side plates 1 connected at each end by a link pin 2, 5. The pin 2 is a plain one held in place by cotter pins 3 or any other means. The pin 5 has a central hole 7 to receive the threaded end of a rod or cable 6, and is removably placed in position in slotted openings 4 in the plates 1. Fig. 3 shows a preferred form of the pin 5, the flats 5a allowing the pin to pass through the slots 4, and grooves 5d then permitting a turn through a right angle so that the plates 1 are enclosed snugly. The hole 7 may be threaded to engage the end of the member 6, or the latter may be tensioned by a nut 8 above the pin 5 and locked by a nut 8 beneath.
