549,758. Making holders for piezo-electric crystals. HOULDING, N., and BAIN, D. A. Dec. 24, 1941, No. 16615. [Class 83 (ii)] [Also in Group XL] An electrode for clamping a quartz, tourmaline, or other piezo-electric crystal is made from triangular, rectangular, or polygonal sheet-metal blank 1 by indenting, cutting, or grinding an edge portion 3 of the blank surface between corner areas 2, which are to form the raised clamping areas, and then lowering the rest of the surface 4, excepting the areas 2, by grinding &c. Preferably between these two operations all the surface so far untreated is ground flat. For a rectangular blank two parallel edge portions 3 are treated. The portions 3 may be bevelled, as shown in Fig. 2, or completely cut away, Fig. 3. The depth of the final grinding determines the electrode gap and may be 5 - 10 microns. The edges 7 may be chamfered to inset the areas 2.
