549,469. Filter-presses. ADAMS, L. G. (Vaudin, A. H.). July 30, 1941, No. 9716. [Class 46] A filter-press comprises one or more filtering - frames clamped between end plates and each having a pack of superimposed slats.clamped together therein so as to provide edge filtration, the slats being formed with a hole, or holes, co-operating to form a flue, or flues, for the passage of the filtrate and the frame or frames with a co-operating duct leading to a discharge conduit. As shown, thin metal slats I are clamped by screws N between rigid slats J, K in frames D clamped with alternate hollow frames P between end plates A. The slats I, J are perforated to form filtrate passages L communicating with channels F having ducts G leading to cocks H. The slats may be flat, corrugated or fluted and their surfaces smooth, indented &c. and may decrease in thickness from the flues L to the edges. ' Filtrate seeping between frames D, P is conveyed through ducts X, formed by registering grooves, to a gutter Y and liquid oozing past the screws N is led by holes Z to the ducts X. One end plate A is formed with a charging inlet Q, steaming and washing inlets R, U and an air cock, the inlets U communicating with flues formed by registering holes S. T in the bottom of the frames D. P. The frames P may be dispensed with, the mud chambers being formed in the frames D.
