Abstract

548,788. Keeping engines warm. COTTON, F. S. Sept. 6, 1941, No. 11423. [Class 7 (ii)] In a jacket or envelope for enclosing the engine cowlings 12 of aircraft, of the kind in which the jacket 5 encloses also a lamp or heater 10 so that hot air is conducted around the cowling 6, or tight fit between the jacket and cowling is ensured by providing the edge of the jacket with a rubber strip 12, Fig. 2, which has been previously secured, while in a stretched condition, to a canvas backing 13, so that when the tension on the rubber is released, the canvas becomes puckered. The rubber and canvas backing are then stretched to their limit while being stitched to the edge 11 of the jacket fabric. A reinforcing-strip may also be attached along the edge of the jacket.
