Abstract

548,660. Trimming wearing-apparel. LEVY, L., SHEFSKY, S., and RUDICH, P. L. March 10, 1941. No. 3236. Convention date, March 2, 1940. [Class 141] [Also in Group VIII] A garment trimming machine comprises a form on which the garment is supported and a travelling disc knife, mounted on a rotary carrier and co-operating with a knife edge on the form, means being provided for smoothing the garment in front of the disc and for marking the garment to facilitate trimming. The garment is carried on form 101, Fig. 1, interchangeably mounted on a central pillar 91 which is clamped in a position adjusted vertically, by a wedge 92 operated by a pedal 9. Surrounding the pillar is a drum 69 to which is-clamped a cutter 68 by means of a ring 70 having a conical guard 67 onwhich the folds of the garment rest. Freely mounted on the pillar is a gear wheel 17 on which two arms 31, 32, Fig. 3 are slidably mounted and carry a plate 47 which with pillars 51, 52, 53, 54 and a plate 48, forms a carriage for the knife, smoothing devices, and marking means. The bars are normally pressed outwards by springs 72, 73 but are pulled inwards by cables passing round pulleys 19, 20 and operated by a pedal 117. The knife 62 is mounted on a shaft 50 carrying a friction wheel 46 for engagement with a surface 71 on the drum 69 when the pedal 117 is depressed to actuate the cables. The latter are connected to a crossbar 29 connected by a bolt 30 to an elbow lever 35 by which through a spring 132 the cutter shaft is moved endwise. On the depression of the pedal 117, the carriage is moved bodily and the friction wheel 46 brought into engagement with the surface 71; the shaft is then moved slightly vertically upwards to bring the knives into close contact. The gear wheel 17 is then rotated thus carrying the carriage bodily round and rotating the knife 62. The folds of the dress are smoothed by bands 111, 113 carried on vertical shafts mounted on an extension of the carriage and driven from the shaft 50. The marking-device comprises a disc 64, vertically adjustable and rotated from the shaft 50; the edge of the disc is supplied with marking-material from a hopper 65. The gear wheel 17 is driven through a slipping clutch from a motor 80 the switch 44 for which is operated when the pedal 117 is depressed, and the pedal is connected to the cables by means permitting the rotation of the gear wheel 17 and associated parts.
