Abstract

296,388. Pare, J. W., and Coombes, W. May 31, 1927. Feeding webs.-In a machine for severing a fabric web into lengths, a frame 7 carrying pin: 13 is traversed in a path determined by chains 8, to which they are attached. On the downward movement of the frame, which remains hori zontal, the pins engage a weftless portion of the fabric and the web is fed downwards. At the bottom of the movement of the frame the fabric is fed on to disc, knives 14 rotated from a motor 16. The sprockets for the chains 8 are driver through a friction clutch 33 which allows a high speed during the idle movement of the frame and a slow speed during the feed. In a modification the feed pins are carried on the adjustable arms of a rotating spider, and rotary disc knives are moved forwards to effect the cutting operation If the pins 13 fail to pass through the openings ii the fabric the pins 13, which normally pass be tween a set of opposed pins 42, Fig. 6, on a leve controlling the driving means, will actuate the pins 42 to stop the machine.
