Feeding webs.-In web-feeding apparatus for cutting or other machines, in which the feed rollers or other devices draw the web continuously from a supply roll and also move bodily so as to arrest temporarily the part of the web being acted upon by the cuting &c. device, the bodily movement of the feed device is effected substantially at right-angles to the direction of feed of the web. In one form, Fig. 5, a pair of feed-rollers 1 are mounted on a slide 9 which is reciprocated by a cam 24 and lever 41 in a path substantially perpendicular to the web 3. The upper roller 1 is driven by a belt 6 passing round a pulley 8 on the slide 9, pulleys 7, and a driving-pulley on a uniformly driven shaft 5, whereby the rollers 1 are rotated continuously at a varying speed, the speed decreasing as the slide 9 descends and increasing as it ascends. A countershaft 14 driven by a belt 13 from the shaft 5 drives, through gearing 15, 16, 17, a shaft 18 which carries the cam 24 and also a cam 19 operating the cutter 23. In a second form, Fig. 6, the feed-rollers 1 are carried by a pivoted arm 28 connected by a link to a second pivoted arm 29 carrying the belt pulley 8 and oscillated in a vertical plane by a cam 24.
