Feeding webs; delivery apparatus.- In a machine for cutting- a web of paper into sheets having devices which indicate on the web the lines on which it will be cut so that the operator, upon noticing a fault in the paper, can operate a switch to deflect the faulty sheet on to a separate pile, the indicating devices are adjustable longitudinally of the web in accordance with the length of the sheets to be cut so as to ensure correct timing of the operation of the deflecting switch. The indicating devices, which may comprise a bar moving between the web and a lamp so as to cast a shadow upon the web, are mounted in a box 42 carried by pinions 40 engaging racks 39 on the machine frame, a hand wheel 43 being provided for operating the pinions to adjust the box. The web-feeding apparatus is substantially of the construction described in Specification 272,490 and comprises two pairs of continuously rotating rollers 5, 24 and an intermediate looping roller 6 operated by a cam 18 on a shaft 17. The rollers 24 are driven at a higher speed than the rollers 5 but allow slip of the web when the roller 6 is actuated to loop the web. The knife 7 is actuated by a second cam 21 on the shaft 17. The feed rollers 5 are driven at a constant speed by a belt 11 from a shaft 10 and the shaft 17 is driven by gearing from a shaft 38 which is driven at a variable speed to vary the lengths of the sheets, by a belt and cone pulleys from the shaft 10.
