Abstract
548,118. Control'of D.C. motors. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. April 1, 1941, No. 4355. Convention date, April 4, 1940. [Class 38 (iii)] A lift motor H is supplied from a generator G which is driven by a motor M together with an excitor EX, and a regulator machine R. Movement of car switch CS on to " up " contact 22 energizes contactor coil U which at contacts U<SP>2</SP>, U<SP>3</SP> completes the circuit of pattern field RPF of regulator R. The regulator R energizes the generator field GF, and a differential field RDF across the armature 9 acts on the regulator R to cause the voltage of generator to correspond to the excitation of the pattern field RPF. This action is assisted by a field RCF on the regulator which is so proportioned that 1 amp. through this field produces just sufficient E.M.F. to drive 1 amp. through the armature R and field GF. A field RSF on the regulator compensates for varying voltage drop due to load in the circuit of the motor armature H. When the car approaches a floor at which it is desired to stop, the switch CS is returned to contact 28 and an inductor relay operated by a hatch plate causes a contact V<SP>1</SP> to open to reduce the excitation of the pattern field RPF, and another inductor relay at the landing causes contactor U to be de-energized and a mechanical brake B to be applied. The brake B is released upon starting of the lift with a delay after the field RPF is excited so as to ensure that the motor H will take the load.
