Abstract
547,851. Automatic fire-arms. ELLARD, H. March 11, 1941. No. 3289. [Class 119] In automatic fire-arms, where the breech action is operated by a gas-actuated piston 1 and the pressure receiving end of the piston is formed with a cavity 13 of conoidal form to constitute a chamber for collecting particles of metal and carbon carried in by the gas, the gas passes through a ferrule 11 with a conical bore and is delivered with an injector-like action into the cavity 13 which has concaved side and bottom walls, a small space 15 existing between the ferrule and the end of the piston when the latter is in its most advanced position. In front of the ferrule is placed a revolvable bush 6, into which the gas enters through one of a graduated series of holes 7.
