547,794. Pipe couplings. GREIG, L. T. H. Dec. 5, 1940, Nos. 17328/40 and 7208/41. [Class 99 (i)] A multiple pipe coupling comprises interfitting spigot and socket members 15, 17, Fig. 1, having lateral pipe connections 16, 18 and clamped together axially of the members 15, 17 with interposed packing-rings 21, 22. Valves 28, 34, Fig. 3, may be provided in the members 15, 17 so as to seal them when separated, the former valve being fixed by its stem 27 and provided with a movable seat 29, while the latter valve is movable against a fixed seating 36 the ends of the valves abutting in a fluid-tight manner when the coupling is effected. The members 15, 17 have interfitting projections 25 and recesses 26, and are held together by spring clamps 23, or as shown in Fig. 5, by means of a lever 46 which operates an eccentric pin 44 in a slot 45 in a plunger 37, so as to force the members 15, 17 axially together and'against a fixed abutment 38. The members 15, 17 are formed with radial grooves engaging locating-bars 49, 50, so that angular adjustment of the members may be effected by varying the particular grooves which engage the bars. In a modification the members 15, 17 are clamped together by a plunger actuated by fluid pressure. The locating-bars, instead of engaging grooves, may carry segments bearing on the peripheries of the members 15, 17.
