Abstract
547,630. Eye-shields; goggles. WYLDE, J. R., and PERRY, R. G. March 3, 1941, No. 2835. [Class 97 (i)] Eye-shields or the windows of goggles are formed of a sheet of wire gauze in association with coloured or pigmented plastic material disposed so that vision is through both the gauze and plastic material. The gauze may be backed by a sheet of plastic material, or may constitute reinforcement for two sheets welded to it, on opposite sides, by heat and pressure. Fig. 2 shows an eye-shield comprising a gauze sheet, shaped by folding at the upper corners, to the back of which a co-extensive plastic sheet and a resilient edging are secured by clips 13 ; an elastic tape 14 is threaded through slits 15. Fig. 3 shows eye-piece frames 22 carrying sheets of gauze and plastic material, and secured by hinges 23 and clips 24 to a steel frame 21 which may be hinged along the lines a a, or b 6 and b<SP>1</SP> bl, or along all these lines. The frame 21 may be lined with felt, sponge rubber &c., the frames 22 may be fixed and slotted for insertion of the gauze &c., and elastic tape 28, shaped ear-pieces, or means detachably or removably holding the frame 21 to a cap, helmet &c. may be provided. Suitable plastic materials, dyestuffs, pigments and gauze are set out in the Specification.
