[Class 97 (i)] Goggles comprise a resilient frame of sufficient body to maintain of itself a predetermined shape curved to the general curvature of the face in the vicinity of the eyes and having a supporting seat in which a transparent flexible shield is removably held to the said curvature. As shown, the goggles comprise a comparatively rigid framelike portion 17 of rubber, latex, polyvinyl chloride or ethyl cellulose plasticised with castor oil, joined to a more resilient face-engaging portion 19 of similar material by vulcanizing or by suitable cement. The frame 17 has a continuous groove 20 providing a seat in which the transparent shield 21 is held, the latter being of methyl methacrylate, or celluloid. The portion 17 is provided with upper and lower edges 22, 26 engaging the face and a recess 28, Fig. 15, formed with a lip 30 to engage the nose. Recesses 31, Fig. 15, are provided at intervals in the groove 20 and permit entry of air under the shield 21 and through aligned holes therein for ventilation. The shield is removably held in the groove by snap fasteners 35, 36, Fig. 5, carried on a web 38 cemented to the facepiece and engaging holes in the shield, the latter having T-slots at its outer edges to engage the enlarged ends 43 of the headband 42, Fig. 2, which also passes through slots 46 on the frame. An additional shield 45 may be held by the headband and may comprise a colour filter or be of material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Polaroid." In a modification, Fig. 9, the shield 54 is held in the groove by engagement of notches 55 therein with a resilient web 57 integral with the facepiece. Alternatively, the webs 57 may extend across the centre of the goggles and hold the shield in place by pressure. Specification 695,234 is referred to.
