Abstract
547,418. Perambulator and like undercarriages. BRETTELL, G. P. March 18, 1941, No. 3677. [Class 108 (ii)] A perambulator, push-chair or the like has underframe side members 1 each of which carries a pair of sheet metal stub axles 3 provided with integral attachment parts. In the construction shown the side members 1 are connected together by transverse members 2 having turned-in ends 8 bolted or attached to the side members. The stub axles are formed from sheet metal blanks pressed into a tubular part 3, and an arched part 5, flat wings 4 being left for attachment to the side members 1 by rivets 7. The transverse members 2 are curved in section, as shown in Fig. 8, and their turned-in ends 8 are also secured by the rivets 7 so that the underframe formed by the members 1, 2, 3 is quite rigid. The body (not shown) is supported by coil springs 11 each secured to the underframe by a bolt 13. In a modification the side members 1 may comprise C-shaped leaf springs, the stub axles and transverse members being secured thereto as described above.
