Abstract
547,144. Locking nuts. JOYNT, J. C., and HIGGS, G. W. June 20, 1941, No. 900/42. Divided out of 542,764. [Class 89 (i)] Nuts are locked by an anchored washer provided with a single flexible tongue that engages the nut to prevent rotation in either 'direction. The tongue A' is formed by making parallel slits A' and bending and is adapted to engage flutes or the like D<1> in the nut. The spanner holds the tongue down to permit the nut to be turned. The washer is anchored either by a lug B turned down to engage a recess adjacent to the bolt or by a pin F<2> engaging a hole in the washer. In a modification a nut with radial holes for a tommy bar has recesses on its bottom face to engage the tongue and the washer is anchored by a lug on the periphery that engages either the edge of the part F' or a hole formed on it.
