Abstract

546,887. Steamers &c. CROWE, G. E. W. Jan. 13, 1942, No. 501. [Class 66] A boiler or steamer for culinary or other purposes comprises a liquid containing vessel 8, Fig. 1, surrounded by a jacket 1, either fixed as shown or removable, depending below the vessel and open at the bottom to receive heat from a gas burner 3 or other source and provided near the top with a ring of apertures 10 for the escape of the heated air. The lid 15, which is fitted with a safety valve 16, also fits a removable extension 11 which can be fitted into the top of the vessel; the extension carries fixed and removable wirework or like trays 12 and 13 and for steaming purposes a wire basket 18 can be supported on the flanged upper edge of the vessel. Fig. 4 shows a modified construction in which the jacket is provided with an intermediate wall 19, the inner annular space so afforded communicating with a flue or chimney provided with a hinged cowl 21, and the outer space being closed top and bottom except for rings of perforations 10, 10a. Means may be provided for varying the number or the area of the openings through which the heated air escapes.
