546,074. Splitting wood. FITTON, R. A., LYONS' INK, Ltd., and HYDE, F. S. Oct. 30, 1941, No. 13991. [Class 145 (i)] A device for splitting a match into two similar parts comprises a base piece with a guide for a hand-piece carrying a blade, a slot for the reception of a match and a fine groove extending fron end to end of the base centrally through the slot the blade engages the fine groove and divides the match longitudinally as the hand piece is moved along the base. As shown the base a has a series of slots d in line at each side of a central groove c in which the handpiece g is guided ; a blade i is secured at each side of the hand-piece g and engages a fine groove e running down the middle of the slots d. A screw passing through the hand-piece may be engaged with a nut q in the base when the device is not in use and the blades-which are of the usual safety-razor type-are secured to the hand-piece by nuts engaging the screwed ends of rods k-fixed in the hand-piece and passing through the perforations in the blade.
