Abstract

545,641. Storm lanterns. BATT, W. G. Feb. 3, 1941, No. 1420. [Class 75 (iv)] A hurricane or storm lantern comprises a fuel reservoir a, a preferably rectangular casing f provided with glazed apertures at its sides and fitted at the top with open ended cover-plates i, i<SP>1</SP> arranged at right angles, and a wick burner b fitting in the fuel reservoir carrying a plate or platform e protecting the flame from wind or draught. The lower part of the casing f is imperforate except for a slot to accommodate the wick adjuster c and may be hinged to the fuel reservoir. A shallow upstanding wall d may be provided on the reservoir below the plate e. Air enters and leaves the casing f through the cowl formed by the plates i, i'. Plain or coloured glasses are secured in flanges m, n on the side apertures of the casing f by leaf springs o. The side apertures may be provided with overhanging light shields l. The oil burner may be fitted with a spring mounting for supporting a candle.
