Abstract
545,301. Folding beds; mattresses. CO-OPERATIVE WHOLESALE SOCIETY, Ltd., and COOMBS, R. A. Feb. 5, 1941. No. 1562. [Classes 52 (ii) and 52 (iv)] A bed capable of folding and opening without removal of its mattress comprise a number of frame sections 1 hinged together and a mattress 9 in one or more units having thin web portions or abutting ends where it lies over the meeting ends of the section, the sections being connected by hinges which limit the degree of opening of the frame in the open portion and hold the sections at spaced position to accommodate the mattress between them when in the folded position. The hinges comprise plates 4 notched to engage pins when the bed is open. Feet 7, 8 may be hinged to the frame sections, the feet 8 at the head section being longer than the others and an additional foot being provided on the foot section. To each end is attached a webbing handle 12 stiffened at the centre and of sufficient length to pass through the intermediate frames when folded and thus prevent them from opening when being carried.
