[Class 38 (v)] The contact carriers of controller drum switches, tapping or other switches consist of porcelain or other, insulating rods such as 8, 9 held in position by metal spacing or bridging members 6, 7 the rods being secured to the bridging members by means of metal wires such as 10, 11 helically. wound on the rods and soldered to the bridging members. The contacts or holders for the contacts are also soldered to 'helically wound wire bushes on the rods. The solder in cooling also causes the wire helices to tighten on the rods. Fig. 1 shows a rotary switch in which a metal strip 5, mounted between wire bushes on porcelain rods 14, 15 which constitute with the bridging members 16, 17 the movable contact carrier of the switch, is adapted to move into and out of bridging engagement with contacts 3, 4 mounted in rods of the fixed framework. Fig. 2 shows a controller drum switch, the drum consitsing of porcelain rods 30 spaced apart by bridging members 31 and carrying contacts 33 which engage contacts mounted on fixed porcelain rods 35 spaced apart by bridging members 36.
