An automatic electric switch has a movable copper contact and a fixed copper contact, the latter having a silver containing plating in a cavity at the point of contact. The surface of the plating is thus set back in relation to the remainder of the surface of the contact so that any arcing which occurs when the contact is broken is more easily transferred to the surrounding copper.
