Abstract

544,953. Sulphur dyestuffs ; printing. HADDOCK, N. H., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 2, 1940, No. 16019. [Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] Sulphur containing dyestuffs which can be applied to cellulosic material from sodium sulphide baths are obtained by reducing a copper phthalocyanine sulphonyl chloride with zinc and mineral acid and oxidizing the mercaptan so obtained. The copper phthalocyaninesulphonyl chlorides are obtainable by treating copper-phthalocyaninesulphonic acid or copper phthalocyanine with chlorsulphonic acid at elevated temperature. (C.f. Specification 515,637.) In an example, copper tetra-(4)- sulphophthalocyanine is heated with chlorsulphonic acid and the sulphonylchloride. precipitated by cooling and adding hydrochloric acid ; the suspension is reduced with zinc dust, filtered and dried in air after washing free from acid. In another example, the sulphochloride is formed by treating copper tetra-(4)-sulphophthalocyanine with chlorsulphonic acid and acetic anhydride. The dyeings, which are bright green are discharged by steaming in the presence of dimethylsulphobenzylphenylammoniumchloride, sodium hydroxide and sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate.
