544,863. Soaps. LEVER BROS. & UNILEVER, Ltd. Feb. 6, 1941, No. 1588. Convention date, Feb. 6, 1940. [Class 91] Soaps, particularly when made from fats and oils containing material proportions of unsaturated fatty acids or comprising a material proportion of potash soap, are stabilized against rancidity and discolouration by incorporating therein a small amount of α-stannic acid. The proportion of the-latter specified comprises from 0.1 to 1.0 per cent. of the soap stock and preferably from 0.2 to 0.4 per cent. The α-stannic acid is preferably added in the form of a jelly and is incorporated at any stage of the manufacture, such as during crutching or prior to milling. A specified composition comprises sodium tallow soap, 75 per cent.; potassium coconut oil soap, 25 per cent.; α-stannic acid 0.2 per cent. of the stock.
