Abstract
543,868. Pipe wrenches. STEVENS, A. H. (Byron Jackson Co.). Oct. 11, 1940, No. 15189. [Class 61 (iii)] A well pipe wrench comprising pairs of gripping links 11, 13 and 15, 17 pivoted at 12, 16 to an operaing lever 10 and connected together opposite the pivots by a latch 19, the jaw link gripping faces defining a pipe opening, has means for maintaining the gripping face 25 of the jaw 15 as close to the centre o as the gripping face 24 of the longer jaw 11 for all positions of the lever consisting of a surface 31 on the end of the lever 10 concentric with the pivot 12 in engagement with another surface 32 on the jaw 15 concentric with the centre o, the pivot 16 of the jaw 15 being carried by a block 27 slidable in a slot 28. In a modification shown in Fig. 3 the jaw 42 has a sliding pivot 44 and a surface 52 concentric with the pivot 43 of jaw 41 engages a surface 51 on jaw 42 concentric with the centre o. In another modification, Fig. 4, the long jaw 60 and short jaw 61 are pivoted respectively to a sliding pivot 62 and fixed pivot 63 on the lever 64, pivot 63 engaging an arcuate slot 69 concentric with centre o in a web 68 carried by jaw 60. Another modification described is similar to the first but has three gripping links only.
