Abstract

543,807. Making cages for roller bearings; drilling. COOPER ROLLER BEARINGS CO., Ltd., and KAY, S. Aug. 13, 1940, No. 12946. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iii)] Cages for roller bearings are first formed with more metal than the finished product so that a series of holes b can be drilled of a diameter less than that of the rollers. The cage is then turned or bored to break into these holes forming slots c and the holes are opened out to finished size by a cutter guided by a bush f that passes along the slots as the holes are bored. The bush is supported rigidly by a slide g that has a long and ngid bearing. The cage is mounted on an indexing head and the slide carrying the bush f may also carry the spindle and a small electric motor. The cage is then machined, if necessary, to break into the holes on the other side.
