Abstract

543,767. Surfacing moulds. BOWEN, E. WINDSOR-. July 6, 1940, No. 11351. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] An aluminium or aluminium alloy mould or die for molten non-metallic materials has its working surface anodized, i.e. coated with an integral film of aluminium oxide by an electro-chemical process. The surface prior to anodizing may be smoothed by mechanical or other treatment. The porous deposit may be impregnated with a lubricant such as graphite. Alternatively the oxide coating may be sealed by treating with salts or high temperature water, or a very hard coating may be produced. The exterior of the mould or die may be fitted with cooling fins &c. Specifications 543,577, [Group XXII], and 543,707 are referred to.
