Abstract

542,394. Junction boxes. CONDUIT FITTINGS, Ltd., and SMITH, J. Aug. 2, 1940, No. 12488. [Class 38 (i) ] A cable inlet 8a of a junction box 8 is fitted with a cable gripping device consisting of a plate 10 with a tongue 10b that enters the aperture 8a and engages the cable therein. The plate 10 has a slot or aperture 10a that fits over the cable and a hole 10c for securing the plate to the box. The tongue 10b is inclined so that after inserting the tongue in the aperture 8a until the slotted end of the plate is in contact with the surface 8b of the box, Fig. 4, the plate is rocked about the point of contact causing the tongue to be pressed into the sheathing or insulation of the cable. The apertures 8a and slots 10a may be provided in various widths for different cables and the plate 10 may have projections 10d to fit in each side of the aperture. A closure plate for the aperture is also provided.
