542,156. Refractories. CORNING GLASS WORKS. Oct. 11, 1940, No. 15163. Convention date, Oct. 11, 1939. [Class 22] A cast refractory for glass furnace construction is made of crystalline zirconia in a matrix substantially free from alumina. Up to 15 per cent. of the oxides of sodium, lithium or potassium added as carbonates or up to 25 per cent. of the oxides of beryllium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, or barium added as oxides, carbonates, or sulphates, may be added to pure zirconia, or the composition may consist essentially of zirconia and less than 20 per cent. of silica.
