541,917. Vehicle bodies. BRIGGS MANUFAC. TURING CO. June 19,1940, No. 10560. Convention date, June 26, 1939. [Class 108 (i)] [Also in Group XIV] For securing fabric trim materials to vehicle. parts a deformable metallic strip has an offset wall provided with groups of lateral projections spaced from the free edge of the strip and adapted to pierce or grip the edge of the material after this has been tucked between the offset wall and the support for the strip. As applied to securing the headlining to a roof rail the rail comprises an angle-section member 14, 16 welded to the flange 13 of a member 11 which has a horizontal internal flange (not shown) welded to a inturned flange on the roof panel. The member 14 has a number of punched out ears 17 for gripping the lip 20 of a windlace 19. A metal strip 23 secured to the member 14 at 28 has an offset wall 24 provided with an edge flange 26 and a series of punched out projections 27. The edge of the lining 21 is tucked between this wall and the flange 13 as shown in Fig. 4, the wall is then bent inwardly by hammering thus causing the lining edge to be pierced by the projections and also to be gripped by the flange 26. For attaching the fabric, covering 31, Fig. 6 the back cushion A of a vehicle seat, the metal strip has a channelled edge 33 adapted to engage over the seat frame 30. The edge 31a of the covering 31 is then drawn over the strip and tucked in between the strip wall 24 and the frame 30 and is pierced and gripped by the projections 27 and flange 26 by hammering the wall 24 as above described.
