Abstract

470,613. Vehicle bodies; panels. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 12, 1937, No. 4215. Convention date, Feb. 15, 1936. [Class 108 (i)] [Also in Groups X and XIV] Trim panels for vehicle bodies are provided with fasteners for connecting them to a support the fasteners comprising retainer members adapted to be secured to the panel and a fastener member connected to each retainer member and arranged in a plane parallel to the face of the panel. Fig. 3 shows a fastener comprising a retainer member 42 having prongs 43 for securing it to the panel A and a channel portion 41 within which the fastener member is retained, the fastener member being shaped as shown in Fig. 4 with abutments 35, 36 and a curved portion 37. The fastener members are arranged facing outwardly on the side and bottom edges, Fig. 8, and the panel A is engaged with the side supports and subsequently slid downwardly to engage the bottom support. The top edge 33 of the trim fabric is bent over the flange 18, Fig. 5, and secured by a moulding 47 and screws 48. In a modification the fastener members point all in the same direction, say towards the bottom, and the two side series of fasteners are adapted to enter apertures 60, Fig. 12, in the side supports while the bottom series of fasteners engage the flange of the bottom support. Fig. 13 shows a combined retainer and fastener member R.
