[Class 142 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] In compressing laminated wood for making weaving shuttles provision is made so that the inner laminae are compressed to a less extent than the outer ones. According to one method, spacing blocks 3 are inserted along the edges of the inner laminae 4 after assembly in the press to limit the amount of compression to which the inner laminae are subjected. In an alternative method the inner laminae are formed from sheets of greater thickness and containing less moisture than the outer laminae. Thus, after compression, a block in which the density of the inner part is less than that of the outer part is obtained.
