541,616. Cooling reactors etc.; induction motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 2, 1940, No. 17137. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1939. [Classes 35 and 38 (ii)] A reactor or other static inductive apparatus is cooled by a fan driven by an induction motor comprising an unwound rotor and a stator consisting of pole-pieces provided with shading coils and so shaped and located as to be energized by the flux of the apparatus to be cooled. In an air-cored reactor, Fig. 3, comprising air-spaced turns 21 supported by radial members extending between outer and inner concrete rings 23, 24, the fan 30 is located in the centre opening and is mounted on the shaft of rotor 34 which is arranged between pole pieces formed of laminated members 32, 33 extending as shown so as to collect part of the flux of the reactor. The fan and motor may be mounted in other positions within the field of the reactor either inside or outside of the winding structure, the stator elements being shaped accordingly. Specification 523,926 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an iron-cored reactor, Fig. 13 (Cancelled) in which one of the yokes is partially cut away to form stator poles between which the rotor 75 of the fan motor is mounted. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
