Abstract
541,302. Radio-active alloys. FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO. April 12, 1940, No. 6697. Convention date, Jan. 4. Drawings to Specification. [Class 1 (i)] Radio-active alloys are prepared by depositing a radio-active metal on the surface of another metal and melting the plated metal. The process provides a method of producing alloys containing very small proportions of polonium from radium D. A solution containing chlorides of lead and radium D is aged to develop polonium, a copper-plated nickel foil is then immersed in the solution and the polonium is deposited thereon, and the foil is subsequently melted. The mother liquor is cooled to deposit radium D and lead chlorides, which are aged to develop more polonium and are then redissolved in the mother liquor from a subsequent process, to which further quantities of raw material are added.
