Abstract
541,028. Thermal switches. BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO., Ltd., SHERLOCK, J. E., and HURST, W. F. F. MARTIN-. June 7, 1940, No. 10009. [Class 38 (v)] A bellows 5, connected by a protected capillary tube 64 with a phial exposed to variation in temperature, operates against the pressure of a spring 12 to move a rod 24, whereby spring-pressed plungers 32 ride up the outer cored surface of the shaped end 28 and on moving down the inner surface, slide the member 30, bearing a contact plate 29, to bridge two fixed contacts 28a and close the switch. The casing comprising three parts 1, 2, 3 is sealed against atmospheric variations, the casing also serving as an electrical screen against causing radio interference. Adjustment of the spring pressure is effected by means of a pinion engaging a spur wheel 18 screwed to a central bush on the dividing plate 16 and bearing against the end of the spring 12 through a thrust ball-bearing 19 The contacts 28a are connected to terminals 42 on a composite rod 36, 38 sealed where it passes through the end wall 4, by a flexible strip 35, Specification 525,106 is referred to.
