[Class 40 (iii)] A measuring, indicating, recording, or controlling apparatus including a photo-electric follow-up device comprises a galvanometer with a moving system 3 carrying a mirror 5, a bar 9 pivoted co-axially with the moving system 3 and carrying a pair of .nirrors 7, 8, a source of light 6, a pair of light sensitive devices 11, 12, a carriage device 16 mechanically coupled to the bar 9, and a motor 14 for driving the carriage in one direction or the other under control of the light sensitive devices, whereby the bar and the carriage followup the movements of the moving system 3. When the bar 9 and the moving system 3 point in the same direction, the light misses the light sensitive devices or falls on them equally, and the followup mechanism is at rest. If the moving system moves to one side or the other, one light sensitive device is illuminated more than the other or one is illuminated and the other not, and this causes the motor 14 to run in one direction or the other or controls clutches to transmit motion from the motor in one direction or the other, whereby the carriage 16 is driven by a screw 15 and the bar 9 follows-up the moving system 3. The carriage 16 may be coupled directly with a recording stylus or may operate switches or may move a slider over a potentiometer.
