[Class 12 (i)] A shaft bearing comprises a bearing surface of sintered material in contact with and secured to a lubricant reservoir, forming a sealed self-contained unit. A sleeve 1, Fig. 1, has a tight fit with or is soldered or welded to a flanged sleeve 2 to form a reservior 6, sleeve 2 having apertures 7 leading to a porous sintered metal liner 4. Sleeve 1 may have a plug for filling the space 6 and sealing it. The shaft 5 may have a sleeve keyed thereto and the sleeve 2 may be secured by end washers threaded into sleeve 1. The end flanges 3 may be formed on sleeve 1 by spinning or pressing so as to enclose sleeve 2 and liner 4. In a modification sleeves 1, 2 are replaced by two angled pressings secured together. Sleeve 2 may be dispensed with and sleeve 1 with end flanges formed by a pressing in one piece or in two parts secured together. The lubricant reservoir may be keyed to the shaft to rotate with it. They may be formed by channels 51, Fig. 9, in pressings 52 rivetted together and sealed by plates 59. External channels are formed to receive a sintered bush 56. The pressings may be placed oppositely and the plates 59 dispensed with. The reservoir may have a thrust face to engage a collar on the shaft, or it may be recessed to receive a sintered bronze washer.
