Abstract
540,624. Moulding lamp-housings for in corporation in pedestrian crossings, street islands etc.; road-traffic signs. BELL & CO., Ltd., A., and BELL, N. M. June 11, 1940, No. 10133. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XVIII] The lamp-housing is cast in inverted position in a mould comprising a dished base 10, side members 16 having abutting corner extensions 17, a top member 23 removably supported on the side members, and a core which is supported above the base and is held in position laterally by the sides 16 or by projections 18 thereon. The core comprises nine tapered blocks 20 supported on a dome-like block 15 having a peg 14 which is received in a hole 13 in the base. The projections 18, which are removably secured to the sides, abut against the core and form openings for windows and doors. The side having the doorway-forming projection has a loose section 27 which can be withdrawn for insertion, while the concrete is still plastic, of a plug of wood or metal from which the door may be hung. The sides are centred by studs 26 engaging or passing through horizontal flanges on the sides. If the lamphousing is to accommodate an oil-burning lamp, holes may be made in the sides and top thereof by inserting short lengths of pipe through holes 21, 22 and withdrawing a core of concrete, or by leaving pipes in the holes. A rib 24 may be formed on the top 23 to form an air-feed hole to the inlets 22.
