Abstract
540,339. Piston extrusion apparatus. BICKFORD, J. G. A., and CLARK, M. M. May 1, 1940, No. 7855. [Class 102 (ii)] In a fire extinguisher garden sprayer, or like pistor extrusion apparatus, the piston 15 comprises a cup washer having a shirt portior 16 directed towards the closed end of the container 11, and has an aperture 17 through which the liquid is expelled and around which the piston is engaged by one end of a separately formed tube 20 with a jet or spraying nozzle 22 at its other end, the tube being guided longitudinally by means such as a cork or rubber tapered annulus 23, engaging the open end of the container. The tube 20 may be provided with fixed or adjustable gripping arms 21 and with a belled-out end 19 to receive a thickened portion 18 of the piston 15, the shirt 16 of which cooperates with an internal flange 14 on the closed end 13 of the container 11. The container and the piston may be sealed when not in use, the closed end of the container may include a non-return inlet valve, and the piston may be withdrawn by means of the nozzle or a separate tool. In a modification, the nozzle carries a flanged rubber annulus which engages an inwardly directed ledge fixed inside the container just below its top.
