Divided out of 538,289 [Group XXXIV] [Class 82 (ii)] In the method of providing ball or roller bearings, particularly for vacuum vessels, with a thin coating of soft metal, such as lead, the inner race 31 of the bearing is mounted on a rotary shaft 32 driven by a motor 33 and the outer race 34 is supported in a clamp 35 provided with a projecting part 36 which when the shaft 32 is rotated is held against a stop 37. During the rotation of the shaft a small quantity of metal powder is poured into the space between the balls by a spoon 38 and the metal powder is rubbed into the surface of the balls and races to produce a film-like coating thereon.
