Abstract

539,107. Dyes. SOC. OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY IN BASLE. Nov. 30, 1939, No. 31155. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1938. [Class 2 (iii)] An anthroquinone vat dye, which may be used for dyeing and printing animal and vegetable fibres, e.g. cotton, rayon, wool and natural silk in fast reddish-brown tints, is made by treating 8:8<SP>1</SP>-dibenzamido -1:1<SP>1</SP>:4:1<SP>11</SP> -trianthrimide with an aluminium halide condensing agent, e.g. aluminium chloride, in the presence of a tertiary base. The parent anthrimide may be made by reacting a 1:4-dihalogeno-or-diaminoanthraquinone (1 mol.) with 1-amino-or-halogeno-8-benzoylaminoanthraquinone. In an example, 8:8<SP>11</SP>-dibenzoylamino-1:1<SP>1</SP>-4:1<SP>11</SP>-trianthrimide, made from 1:4-diaminoanthraquinone and 1-chloro-8-benzoylaminoanthraquinone, is heated with aluminium chloride and pyridine. The use of the product for dyeing cotton is also exemplified. Specification 297,133, [Class 2(iii)], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the manufacture of anthraquinone vat dyes by treating with any condensing agent anthrimides of the general formula R 1 -NH-R-NH-R 2 , wherein R, R, and R 2 are anthraquinone radicles, of which R is linked in 1 and 4 positions with the imino groups which are linked in 1-position with the radicles R 1 , R 2 , and wherein both R, and R 2 contain acylamino groups as substituents at least in the 8-position, the carbon atoms adjacent to the imino groups being attached to hydrogen. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
