Abstract

538,837. Work benches. HARTRIDGE, L. Feb. 14, 1940, No. 2843. [Class 61 (ii)] A holder for enabling the fuel pump of a compression-ignition engine to be assembled or dismantled comprises a platform which can be rotated about a vertical axis and provided with means whereby a second platform, to which the pump may be secured, may be swung about a horizontal axis, means being provided for locking each platform in its adjusted position. The platform 1, having a chamfered edge 2, is carried on a fixed base 5 between jaws 6, 7, the latter being movable to clamp the platform by a screw 8. The platform is provided with brackets 9, 10 in which trunnions 11, 12 on legs 13, 14 on the second platform 15 are mounted. The legs 13, 14 and brackets 9, 10 have interengaging stepped surfaces for limiting the swinging movement of the platform, and one of the trunnions has a screwed extension engaged by a locking collar 16. The platform 15 is provided with apertures 25 to afford access to the plugs which can be removed or assembled by the tool 26. The latter comprises an internally screwed sleeve having a bit 31 for engaging the plug and in screwed engagement with a screw bolt 29 the head of which has a projection taking into one of a number of holes 32; the pitch of the thread of the bolt 29 is the same as that of the plug. A plate 33 with a key-hole slot 34 and a forked end 35 for fitting dogs on a coupling on the pump shaft, and the collar 16 respectively when the fixing nut on the pump shaft is to be removed is provided.
