Abstract

538,830. Goggles. FLEMING, J. A., and FLEMING, Ltd., J. & R. Jan. 11, 1940, No. 677. [Class 97 (i)] A frame symmetrical about a horizontal median line through the eye rims 12, 13, carries a pair of shaded screens 14 above the median line and a differently shaded pair 15 below it; the frame may be worn in relatively inverted positions to vary the shades in the lines of distant vision, and may have sockets 16 in which the side wires 18 are rotatable. The eye rims may be of metal and circular, and may be provided with flanges 21 to which leather' cups 20 are riveted. Alternatively, they may be of synthetic resin. The side wires may be formed without ear hooks, or may be replaced by a head band, or by lugs capable of supporting the frame on the side wires of other frames having two pairs of shaded screens so that, by suitable arrangements of the two frames in combination, four different shading effects may be produced in the lines of sight. The screens may be stained or coated plastic material, polarizing material, glass, laminated glass &c. and may be lenticular. According to the Provisional Specification, the screens may be carried by frames rotatable in the eye rims or in narrow horizontal bars, the rotatable frames having two or more different screens, or may be carried by light frames interchangeably insertible in the spectacle frame.
