Abstract

537,471. Electric lamp-holders. BULL, V. G., and BRITISH POWER BOAT CO., Ltd. Nov. 21, 1939, No. 30529. [Class 75 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] Relates to a mounting for an electric fitting, particularly for electric light, which shall seal off the fitting from air, water, firedamp &c. The device is suitable for signal lamps, ship and aircraft lamp fittings, landing lights &c. The invention is described as applied to ships' navigation sidelights. The device comprises a metal tube 11 with flanges 12, 13, the flange 13, or both, being detachable. There are means for clamping the flanges to opposite sides of a support 10, e.g. the side wall of a wheel house, a lamp holder 22, 23, 25 with a backplate 15 and a gland, through which is passed a supply cable 17. The plate 15 with sealing gaskets 19 is clamped to flange 12 by metal screws by unscrewing which the lamp holder may be withdrawn without disturbing the seal on the opposite side of the support 10. The lamp casing flange 29 beds on a gasket 30 and is secured, with flange 13, by screws 32. The part of the holder which houses securing terminals, contacts &c. is disposed within the tube 11, so that radiation may be screened off. The cable may be screened by metal braiding, extending through the gland and connected to a metal part.
