Abstract
537,423. Blood food preparations. WEIZMANN, C. Nov. 20, 1939, No. 30441. [Class 49] A food preparation is made by subjecting animal blood or serum thereof to a predigestion or presolution treatment with proteolytic enzymes, such as papain, bromelin or pepsin, and afterwards to the action of yeast enzymes, e.g. by treatment with an active yeast autolysate, to effect further proberlytic degradation. The enzymes used in the presolution stage may be activated, e.g. papain activated by yeast autolysate, and the blood, diluted with water, may be sterilized or pasteurized before treatment with the enzymes. As blood contains proteolytic enzymes pretreatment with papain &c. may be replaced by a period of incubation during which action of the blood enzymes occurs. The process may be carried out in the presence of antiseptics such as toluene, chloroform, ether &c. Specifications 450,529, 478,570, 509,495, [Group IV], and 529,775 are referred to.
