537,339. Composite slabs. MAY & SON, Ltd., R., and EDWARDS, H. J. Dec. 7, 1939, Nos. 31683/39 and 1881/40. [Class 87 (i)] [Also in Group V] Units for forming frame buildings consist of tray-like members 1 ... 11 and 16 ... 23 cast or moulded from a compound of sawdust or the like and cementitious material, of such consistency that it can be nailed or shaped with ordinary carpenters' tools. Units of large size may be formed with transverse ribs 15 similar in section to the rims 12 of the trays. Apertures 14 for the securing bolts may be formed in the members, and window or door frames (unit 26) or the pintles therefor (unit 24) may be incorporated in them. The material from which the units are cast or moulded is prepared by saturating soft disintegrated wood such as sawdust, allowing the saturated material to remain in air for at least 24 hours, mixing with dry portland cement and ground lime in the proportions of two to six parts by bulk of the material to one Part of cement and threequarters lime, and finally gauging with 10 to 15 pounds per cubic foot of a 7.5 per cent. solution of calcium chloride. Coloured cements may be used.
