537,143. Locking - nuts. DENNISON. E. A., and KENNEDY & KEMPE, Ltd. Nov. 10, 1939, No. 29813. [Class 89 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] One-piece nuts that lock by the friction of the threads only have an upper locking portion b separated by an undercut recess c from the nut proper and divided by radial recesses f so that the nut grips by elastic deformation at d. The threads in the part b are not tapped out to the full diameter. The top part of the nut is circular and radiused as shown in Fig. 1. Illustrative proportions are given. Making nuts. The nuts may be made from hexagonal bar stock by drilling, recessing at c, Fig. 3, taper tapping, plug tapping the end portion a, Fig. 5, only and parting off and form turning the circular portion at one operation. The slots f are milled after parting off. In a modification, the tapping is effected in one operation by a combined taper and plug tap.
