Screw-threads, forms of.-The thread of a metal or wood screw is of undercut form so as to become anchored in the material in which the screw is inserted, and to resist separation in all directions at right angles to the axis. Fig. 3 shows a thread of concavo-convex form used to connect two parts each of which has a semi-cylindrical threaded recess. The thread may be bevelled inwardly on one or both faces, or be of T or L section, so as to be thicker at the outer edge than at the part adjoining the stem of the screw, as shown in Fig. 12. The screw when in position may be riveted or welded to the part into which it is screwed.
