Abstract

536,873. Machine gun cartridge feed. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., and MORGAN. W. G. Sept. 28, 1939, No. 26827. [Class 92 (ii)] Machine guns and small-calibre quick-firing cannon are fed with rounds of ammunition by a flexible band forming a loop or loops in which a plurality of rounds are carried, the band being pulled to shorten the loop or loops and expel the rounds along guides to the gun breech. In the magazine shown, the band is threaded round a power-driven roller 41 through a horizontal compartment leading to vertical compartments in each of which the band is looped to support a plurality of cartridges, the end of the band being fixed at 48 to the magazine casing. The band is passed as shown round hinged flaps 53 closing the upper ends of each vertical compartment, the flaps, when closed, forming the floor of the horizontal compartment. The flaps open as shown to permit the rounds to pass in turn into the horizontal compartment which is formed under a hinged lid 14 and leads by guide 43 to the breech of the gun 45.
