Abstract

572,504. Cartridge magazines. MOTLEY, L. Aug. 4. 1939, Nos. 22652 and 22653. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to cartridge magazines for automatic guns of the kind having a plurality of cartridge compartments 2, Fig. 5, and conveyer means 11 at one end of the compartments for feeding the rounds to the gun. According to the invention, the rounds 1 in each compartment are permanently pressed towards the conveyer as by means of spring-pressed rollers 6, and the compartments are provided with movable traps or stops 8 to withhold the rounds from the conveyer so long as there are any rounds in the preceding compartment and to move automatically to the open position when the preceding compartment is exhausted. The invention is shown applied to a magazine having a worm conveyer 11 feeding to the right, as described in Specification 572,510, the cartridges being pressed towards the conveyer by rollers 6 on spring-loaded arms 4 as described in Specification 572,505. The stops 8 shown are in the form of spring plates 9 held in operative position by the cartridges themselves, but springing to the inoperative position shown to the left of Fig. 5 when the compartment is exhausted. The compartments are formed of separate trough-shaped elements nested together, as shown in Fig. 4.
